11. Junie and I, Chelsea and D/\N, and his parents had brunch together on Friday at Ingrid's Kitchen. Later we visited my brother and my parents at my parents' house. For dinner our morning group of six ate at the Coach House. We also played together with my first present: Beatles Rock Band for the 360. I got the limited edition with the Paul McCartney Höfner bass.

12. We had a big Chanukah dinner on Saturday featuring buffalo brisket and homemade latkes.

13. Everybody except Junie drove at the Pole Position Raceway on Sunday. After that we had lunch at the Golden Palace and walked in a park by the river before dropping D/\N's parents off at the airport.

14. We played some more Beatles Rock Band on Monday and ate at Johnnies Charcoal Broiler and Coits Drive Inn #3.

15. Chelsea bought me the George Harrison Gretsch guitar and an additional microphone for Beatles Rock Band as my present on Tuesday. We had dinner at Chelino's Mexican Restaurant.

16. We visited with Chinaski's wife and kids on Wednesday.

17. Chelsea and D/\N visited some of their friends on Thursday.

18. There was more shopping on Friday.

19. We all went to Wynnewood on Saturday to celebrate Christmas with Junie's mom, dad, brothers, and their families.

20. Chelsea and D/\N took a flight back to Seattle on Sunday.

21. I went back to work on Monday.

22. On Tuesday we relaxed.

23. The IT service desk guy told me on Wednesday that my main work machine would have to be taken offline and have the standard windows desktop reinstalled. I told him I would need some time to get my files backed up. The weather service was predicting snow for Thursday so we decided to take the grandkids presents to them Wednesday night.

24. It started snowing early on Thursday and by noon there were several multi-car accidents reported. I put a chicken in the crockpot to cook.

25. We stayed in on Friday. We were supposed to go to Grandma's for lunch but we told her we wouldn't be able to make it. I made spaghetti for dinner.

26. We stayed in again on Saturday and called in a pizza delivery.

27. On Sunday we went to Grandma's and had leftovers from her Christmas lunch.

28. The guy from the service desk wiped out my main work machine on Monday and re-installed the standard image.

29. On Tuesday I reloaded my files. I installed Quicken (1992), Google Chrome 3.0.195.38, Palm Desktop 4.1.4, Semagic 1.4.7.1U.

30. On Wednesday I installed Mozilla Thunderbird 3.0, Adobe Photoshop CS3.

Undertoad
Just Cause 2 Video: "The Laws of Physics on Drugs"
Havok Independent Developer Program
Video: "A post-MAPS OKC"
Garry's Blog: Windows Live Writer improved my blogging
A Massage

Video
The Santa Clause 3
1.
1. We did some more shopping on Tuesday. Junie wrapped and packed Chinaski's presents. We got them into two boxes.

2. I sent Chinaski's Christmas presents on Wednesday.

3. Junie did some more shopping on Thursday. My passport arrived and I went to the shipping department to pick it up.

4. On Friday we returned some items and got some different items.

5. We attended Baden's birthday party at Incredible Pizza on Saturday.

6. On Sunday I saw William Shatner in the Oklahoma City Will Rogers airport terminal. His flight to Los Angeles was called and I missed my chance to speak to him. At approximately noon my flight left Oklahoma City. I arrived in the Washington DC Dulles airport at around 4:00 pm. The flight to Brussels, Belgium took off at approximately 6:00 pm.

7. The flight arrived in Belgium on Monday at around 7:30 am. I purchased a train ride with Thursday return and went down to the tracks. When I got the the track I expected to be the correct one I found Shahar. We rode the train together to the Brussels North station. We had a jambon sandwich and espresso before walking to the Sheraton Hotel. The other contractors invited me to attend the software installation but I ended up taking a nap until dinner time. We all went to Restaurant 't Kelderke for dinner. I ordered the Gratin de moules (mussels covered with cheese and baked or broiled). After dinner we walked back to our hotel in a light rain. The Christmas decorations were pretty.

8. On Tuesday we took a train to attend training at the Université catholique de Louvain à Louvain-La-Neuve. At the end of the day we had dinner at a nearby restaurant.

9. There was more training on Wednesday.

10. The flight on Thursday left Brussels around noon. We arrived in Washington, DC at approximately 3:00 pm. The flight home left at 7:00 pm and arrived in Oklahoma City just after 9:00 pm. Chelsea and D/\N's flight was somewhat delayed so I hung around at my office until they arrived around 10:00 pm. Junie had already picked up D/\N's parents when they arrived at the airport.

Undertoad
Mail: 1978 (Advertising: 599 (Junk: 279))
Portal tops "Weekend"'s Best of Decade list
John Hodgman: minor celebrity

Movie (on trans-Atlantic flight)
Public Enemies
District 9
500 Days of Summer (I tried watching this one three times but kept falling asleep in the middle)

Thanksgiving paperwork

19. On Thursday my boss saw me in the hallway and asked if I would be interested in a trip to Europe for a project. It would be the week Chelsea comes home, but he said I could return the same day she was coming in. Also, it would be in just two weeks and my official passport expired last year. That night I took my own passport photos and printed them out on our home photo printer.

20. I spent all of Friday filling out (electronic) paperwork for my trip. This included getting authorizations, turning in my official passport renewal forms, and making airline and hotel reservations. I finally got everything turned in and approved by my manager at 6:20 pm.

22. While we were attending the movie at Tinseltown on Sunday night, someone apparently pulled the fire alarm. We went out the back exit. When we had walked around to the front, an employee told us it was a false alarm and we went back inside to watch the rest of the movie.

23. My country clearance came through on Tuesday.

25. I installed a Logitech QuickCam Chat on the new Windows 7 PC on Wednesday. When I tried to run the installation disc Windows refused to run it, saying it was incompatible. I tried downloading software from Logitech, but Windows also said it was incompatible and refused to run it. Finally I went into the hardware manager, selected update driver, and chose the x64 drivers from the installation disc. I don't have the extra software, but at least I can use the webcam to make video calls with Skype and Oovoo.

26. On Thanksgiving day Junie and I attended the Skirvin Thanksgiving Champagne Brunch. I had a salad, seared tuna, sushi, mashed potatoes, yams, green bean casserole, some kind of snapper, pork, turkey, and a big slice of sea bass. Junie had mostly more traditional dishes including turkey and ham. Neither of us had the prime rib. But we did both get full. Later we saw Old Dogs at the Harkins Bricktown. That night I played Left 4 Dead 2 for an hour or so. I was getting tired of not finishing Dead Center so I found a game in progress and finished the final two levels of that campaign. Someone commented about my voice communication bubble being on during the game so I decided to try fixing my voice configuration. The setup screen does not tell you how loud you have to be in order to activate communication (and the bubble). It also doesn't tell you what you have to do to adjust that setting. Eventually I discovered that moving the "Sensitivity" setting to the right increases the volume required for activation. I also discovered that changing these settings while in a game doesn't work properly. You should only adjust the sensitivity from the main menu. After adjusting my settings I started a Dark Carnival campaign and eventually ended up with a very helpful and cooperative crew who helped me complete it.

Undertoad
Mail: 1077 (Advertising: 312 (Junk: 176))
Company culture study
Daring rescue in L4D2 by bots (YouTube)
Code Monkey travels video
An Oklahoma farm blog
OKC Christmas Present & Past

Book
27. State of Fear, Michael Crichton

Video
A Christmas Carol (1938)
The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
Christmas in Connecticut (1945)
It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947)
7.
7. The boss came to my desk on Wednesday and told me he wanted me to be in charge of a new study we're doing and there would be a meeting at 2:00 pm. It's not a big study and does not involve international travel etc, but it's something anyway.

17. Junie was craving pumpkin pancakes on Saturday so we had lunch at Mimi's Cafe. After lunch we went to visit my parents. My sister and her husband were also there. We saw some pictures of the renovations they had done to the cabin following the tree falling on it. Next we picked up the three- and two-year-old and took them to Gramma's for dinner. There were fried chicken legs which were a pretty big hit with the boys. They spent the night at our house.

Undertoad
Mail: 953 (Advertising: 228 (Junk: 179))
A razor worth considering
The story of Scribblenauts

Book
25. Alexander's Bridge, Willa Cather (140)

Video
"Star Trek" S3 D1
- #58 The Paradise Syndrome (10/4/1968)(60043-058)(Stardate 4842.6)
- #59 And the Children Shall Lead (10/11/1968)(60043-060)(Stardate 5029.5)
4. Year One (S2)
5. My Life In Ruins (S3)
6. Spider-Man 3 (C1)
7. Monsters vs. Aliens (C2)
8.
1. When I got home on Thursday the TiVo HD XL was having a problem. The screen was blank and it did not respond to the remote or the format button on the front panel. I pulled the plug to reboot it. It broke three more times with increasing frequency before we gave up on it. I've only had this unit since May 22. That's only four months. What the heck?

2. Junie and I kept the two- and three-year-old Friday night. It appears that Wal-Mart has stopped selling Dry Idea antiperspirant. I ordered some using Amazon and it left Tacoma, Washington on Friday. I also order several DVDs that left New Castle, Delaware on Friday.

3. On Saturday we took the boys to Sukkot Shabbat. Later we had lunch at Gramma's house before taking them home.

4.
24. For some reason I woke up on Thursday morning with the song "Seattle" on my mind. "The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle ..." This was the theme song for the 1968-1970 TV series "Here Come the Brides" but I'm not sure what triggered my memory of it.

25. I returned my previously rented movie before I left for DC expecting to have the next disc of "Monk" season 7 waiting for me when I returned. On Friday, almost two weeks later Blockbuster Total Access had failed to send me any disc and the At Home section of my queue only had two discs instead of three.

27. On Sunday I listed some purses, shoes, and whatnot on eBay for Junie.

30.
10. The lamp went out on the Sony 55" rear projection TV on Thursday. I ordered a replacement lamp through Amazon Thursday night.

11. Junie's stepmother had surgery on Friday. She followed her father and stepmother to Wynnewood to make sure they would be okay. When she started back home, her car started overheating. The local car repair shop was closed. Junie called me and I drove to Wynnewood to meet her. I put some antifreeze in the overflow tank but there were no leaks apparent. When Junie's brother got home, he looked at the car and hooked it up to his OBD scanner to read out the error codes but he did not have the European module and only found a temperature warning. We tried to drive home but only got about 25 miles closer to home before a hose burst and we had to pull over. I called Arrow Wrecker Service and, although it would cost $265, had the tow the car to Cable Motors in the city.

12. Cable Motors told me on Saturday that the burst hose had to be ordered and would not arrive until Wednesday.

14. Junie and I went to the airport on Monday but no rental cars were available for less than $80 a day. I called Cable Motors and they were able to arrange for a loaner.

15. I flew to Washington, DC on Tuesday for a workshop. I stayed at the Key Bridge Marriott. A small group of coworkers had crabcakes at Legal Sea Food in Crystal City.

16. After the opening speeches on Wednesday I called Richard. He was in a cab on the way to the wrong Sheraton Hotel. He arrived a few minutes later after correcting his destination. We decided to see a few sights since it was my first visit to DC. We went on a tour of the capital. We visited the front of the White House where a group was picketing asking for temporary protected status for Haitians.

We had a Stella at a small cafe in front of the Willard hotel. We walked along the mall. We saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the war veteran memorials for Vietnam, Korea, and World War II. Before heading back to our respective hotels, we had burgers and fries at the Five Guys in chinatown. Cable Motors called and said that after replacing the hose on Junie's car they discovered that the water pump was not pumping and would have to be replaced.

17. I ate lunch on Thursday with a group of coworkers at the Marine Corps club at Henderson Hall. It was a nice buffet with brisket, fried and grilled chicken, green beans, new potatoes, salad, chili, and gumbo. After lunch I bought a creme soda and a few other items at the Marine Corps Exchange. The workshop wound down later in the afternoon.

18. On Friday I flew back home. The lamp for the TV came while I was gone, I installed it Friday night.

19. We picked up the four older grandsons on Saturday to spend the night while their mother drove her sister's family to Kentucky. I played some video games with the older two boys. We played Little Big Planet, Left 4 Dead (Versus), WarioWare: Smooth Moves, and Boom Blox.

20. We all went to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on Sunday.

Undertoad
Mail: 775 (Advertising: 226 (Junk: 108))

Book
23. Relentless, Dean Koontz

Video
3. Junie wanted to drive me to the golf game. I called one of the men on my mobile phone. He said the game was taking place in some town near Dallas (Texas). At 7 pm. At night.

We left in the middle of whatever was going on and went out to the car. I couldn't keep up with my wife and my mother. When I got to my car, my brothers and my sister were in the car with their spouses. For some reason I had another car there that I didn't want to leave behind so I asked my brother to drive it. I realized when they got out that there had been six people in the back seat of the car.

I was travelling in Air Force One. We went to visit some of my relatives in Tennesee. There was some kind of problem with my tuxedo but the home cooking was excellent.

I was on the top floor of a hotel. I got into an elevator with three other people. Once we were on I saw that the elevator was unfinished or torn up. There were no floor buttons to push and there were no interior wall coverings. The door closed before I could get back out and the elevator started descending. There was some machinery in the back that was leaking and spewing water. The elevator stopped at the ground floor and I got out. I went looking for another elevator because I needed to be on a higher floor. As I was walking around outside I passed a room with an open door. Two older women who were related to me somehow were napping in the room but they woke up as I was passing by and came out of the room to go with me. One of the women led us to some vending machines where she put in coins to vend a bunch of almond M&Ms into a large scoop. She then attempted to pour the candy out of the scoop into my hands. I wasn't prepared and dropped several. These fell into a mound of fine white ashes. I transferred the M&Ms back to the woman. She started back to the room but I stayed behind to pick a number of M&Ms out of the ashes.

18. On Saturday we went to Buster's birthday party at Incredible Pizza. We spent several hours at the Incredible Pizza place while they did the various party things. Junie and I accompanied Broderick and Barak to the game room.

19. We rested on Sunday. I checked the status of my 360. XBox.com said repairs were complete and my 360 was being shipped back to me.

20. As of Monday UPS reported receiving billing information for my 360 shipment, but had not reported picking up the box. I also received my Google Voice phone number, so now I can screen all my calls, record the ones I accept, and generally avoid people much more effectively.

21. On Tuesday the UPS said my 360 was out for delivery. Later Junie told me a box had arrived. When I got home I unpacked the (new) 360, plugged in the power, hard drive, ethernet, etc, and played Left 4 Dead for a few minutes. It works. Yay.

Undertoad
Mail: 305 (Advertising: 86 (Junk: 64))
Computers are built to hook up
Snitchtown
What happens to my crypto-secrets when I die
Cutting Edge Gamer
TV Tropes
Google's web-app RSS reader
Scott Adams' spasmodic disphonia

Video
6.
XBox 360 dies

11. After experiencing increasing lockups while playing Left 4 Dead, my 360 finally started powering on with three red lights in the ring. I previously had turned it on its side which seemed to help for that one session. I turned it off and left it to rest.

14. On Tuesday I tried powering on my 360 but it immediately had a three red problem. I attempted to submit a repair request using the website, but it said my serial number had already been reported. I called customer service and evidently they did some kind of override. We wanted to take Barak because he is really into the Transformers but he didn't want to go with Junie when she came to pick them up. After the movie she went back to get him. He finally decided to come with her after Broderick wanted to come instead so we ended up with four boys spending the night. I played some Left 4 Dead with Buster, then Baden wanted to play Wii Fit, and then it was time for bed.

Undertoad
Mail: 413 (Advertising: 109 (Junk: 124))

Video
11.
